Typical visitors to the state of Hawaii follow a standard procession of decisions and activities. Most people stay in the popular Waikiki area at one of several name-brand chain resorts. Most people rent a car and minimally explore outside of the main touristy district. Most people tan on the beach for most of the day and sometimes venture into the area of surf lessons or other water sports. However, while these things may lead to an enjoyable trip, there are several ideas on what to do while in Hawaii.

One particularly interesting idea is the use of vacation rentals in Hawaii. These properties offer significant advantages over standard hotel rooms in size, flexibility, cost, and location. Another travel idea is to find a local tour guide. Most organized tours are operated by large commercial companies that use mega motorcoaches. A much cheaper and personalized tour can be done by one of several local tour guides that may provide groups as small as three or four people an in-depth view of the islands from the eyes of a local. For residents not interested in the standard Waikiki activities, adventuring out to the North Shore or Windward side is an attractive option. Not only are the beaches cleaner and emptier, they are much prettier and easier to find parking at.

For many Hawaii is that dream vacation that has it all: adventure, relaxation, beautiful beaches, golfing, greenery, snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, and much, much more.  However, to many Hawaii may seem like a foreign place and many people won’t know exactly how to make their Hawaii vacation that getaway that you will remember for a lifetime.

When planning your vacation, it is important to remember that although there are six Hawaiian Islands that you can travel to, there are really only 4 islands that are ideal vacation destinations: Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and Hawaii (also referred to as the Big Island).  Oahu can be considered the central island of Hawaii, since over 90% of the state’s population is located in Oahu and Oahu is home to Honolulu, the state’s capital and largest city, and Waikiki, the main tourist center in Hawaii.  Although Oahu is much more crowded than the other islands, it has the most to offer in terms of dining, shopping, and entertainment.  Attractions in Oahu include the Honolulu Zoo, Pearl Harbor, Sea Life Park, Polynesian Cultural Center, Wet n’ Wild water park, Hanauma Bay, and much more.  Maui is home to many luxury resorts, hotels, and condos, as well as attractions such as the Maui Ocean Center, the largest aquarium in Hawaii, Atlantis Submarine Ride, Whale watching, Haleakala National Park, and the historical whaling village of Lahaina.  The Big Island is popular for its active volcanoes, sparkling waterfalls, tropical rainforests, and black sand beaches.  The Big Island is the ideal destination for many outdoor activities.  Kaui is also popular for outdoor activities such as horseback riding, hiking, biking, and many water sports.

Hawaiian Islands

While Hawaii foreclosures have unfortunately displaced many people in Hawaii, the sudden supply of quality housing across the state has opened up a number of opportunities for people to move to the beautiful tropical paradise. The Hawaiian archipelago, comprised of hundreds of islands spread over a stretch of 1,500 miles of ocean forms the northern tip of the Polynesian triangle and is the most remote collection of islands in the world. More than two thousand miles from any other significant land mass, Hawaii’s viagra atmosphere has been preserved, allowing future residents to look forward to a mixed culture of old and new. Ni’ihau, Kaua’i, O’ahu, Moloka’i, Lana’i, Kaho’olawe, Maui, and Hawai’i comprise the eight main islands of the Hawaiian island chain. Kaho’olawe is the smallest, with an area of almost forty-five square miles. Hawai’i is the largest, with 4,028 square miles of land.

The island is also expanding due to the Kilauea volcano, spewing lava into the ocean on the island’s southeastern-facing shore. The island of Hawaii is most commonly known as the “Big Island” to avoid
confusion with the state’s name. Although each island has its own, distinct, culture and way of life, each one uniquely blends in the tradition of Hawaiian custom. Recent estimates put Hawaii’s population at almost 1.3 million people.
